Partners of the project:
Dept Pharmaceutical Biosciences, University of Oslo (UiO), Oslo, Norway
Team leaders: Arild C. Rustan, Professor, PhD; G. Hege Thoresen, Professor, MD, PhD
Their research have been in the field of lipid and glucose metabolism in various cell culture systems. European links:
They are involved with LIPGENE and Nutrigenomics (NuGo). Rustan and Thoresen“s laboratory has long term experience with functional studies on energy metabolism in different cell models especially human skeletal muscle cells
Department of Nutrition Institute of Basic Medical Sciences University of Oslo
Team leader: Prof. Rune Blomhoff:
The major scientific contribution has been related to studies on absorption, transport, storage and function of retinoids (vitamin A), dietary antioxidants and their role in oxidative stress related diseases, as well as molecular imaging in transgenic reporter mice.
Institute of Medicine, Section of Medical Biochemistry, University of Bergen
Team leader: Prof. Rolf K. Berge
Professor Rolf K. Berge is head of The Lipid Research Group at Department of Clinical Biochemistry (DCB). The group is heavily engaged in research on the effects of modified fatty acids and other bioactive fatty acids. Berge has initiated research on structural modified fatty acids, and explored the properties of a vast number of fatty acid analogues substituted with heteroatoms like S, Se and O at different positions of the carbon chain. Their multifunctional effects have been studied with respect to prevention and treatment of lipid disorders including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and obesity.
